IPL 2021 Royal Duel Today: RR vs RCB. KKR, MI break away from mid-table muddle.

42 of the 56 league stage matches of IPL 2021 have now been completed. The double-header on Tuesday has helped create gaps between the four teams that were log-jammed in the middle of the table on eight points, with KKR and MI easing ahead and Punjab falling behind.

Both KKR and MI now have 10 points from 11 matches but KKR are at No.4 courtesy their superior run rate. The defeat to KKR did not hurt DC that much as they still firmly remained at the second spot, enjoying a four point lead over third-placed RCB. But the same was not the case with PBKS.

The KL Rahul-led side's hopes of staying in the race to playoffs received a big jolt with the loss to five-time winners MI. PBKS now have 8 points with only three matches to go. They need to win all of three of them and then hope stars align to make it to the playoffs.

KKRvsDC

KKR WON BY 3 WKTS

According to Delhi Capitals' skipper Rishabh Pant, 150-160 should be a good score on the slow Sharjah wicket. However, they fell well short of that, managing just 127 for nine after being put in to bat by Kolkata Knight Riders' skipper Eoin Morgan on winning the toss on Tuesday.

In spite of playing a batsman less with Tim Southee replacing an injured Andre Russell, the Knights got home safely, scoring 130 runs losing seven wickets with eight balls to spare. The match was almost evenly poised till the 16th over of the KKR innings.

The three-wicket win kept KKR's playoff hopes alive as they retained their place among the top four. Kolkata bowlers were again on the job, keeping the explosive DC batting line-up under check by maintaining some tight line and length.

The loss would be a nice wake-up call for DC, who remain second in the table with 16 points even as KKR consolidated their fourth spot with 10 points.

MI vs PBKS

MI WON BY 6 WKTS

Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma praised his players after his side bounced back against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) after three back-to-back defeats.

The defending champions, who were fourth in the points table at the start of the UAE leg of the IPL 2021, slipped to seventh spot with three consecutive losses. Rohit admitted they haven't played to their potential in the last few games but the players were ready to put in the fight.

Hardik spent some time in the middle before unleashing his big hits against the Punjab Kings bowlers. Rohit Sharma believes this will give Hardik Pandya a lot of confidence ahead of the next game. Hardik Pandya remained unbeaten on 40 runs from 30 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes. He added a match-winning 45 runs with Kieron Pollard to take Mumbai home with six balls to spare.

“It was a great fight, but 135 was not enough on this pitch. We should have got about 170. The boys showed a lot of fight with the ball, we have done that two games in a row. The next three games will be interesting for us as the table looks interesting. It is what it is, we haven’t been able to handle the pressure. We’ll learn more if we play more together as a team. We need to be positive. We have three games, so we need to take one game at a time. We need to go out there and enjoy ourselves. All our games in the UAE have gone down to the wire, hopefully we can build on that,” KL Rahul said post-match.

RR vs RCB

Royal Encounter RR vs RCB

The Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have a net run rate difference of 0.01 in the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL). But the two sides, who have played 10 matches each, have experienced contrasting fortunes so far. While RCB have won six of their 10 matches to be placed third, RR have an inverse record that has earned them sixth place.

RR have had a poor start to the UAE leg of IPL 2021. They pulled a rabbit out of their hat to beat the Punjab Kings in a last-ball thriller, but were comprehensively beaten by the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Delhi Capitals.

Meanwhile, RCB recovered from a terrible start which featured losses to the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Chennai Super Kings to put it across the Mumbai Indians in their previous game. The win helped RCB establish themselves as a cut above the rest in the race for the final two playoff spots, an advantage they wouldn't want to squander with a loss to RR.

While a win for RCB will more or less guarantee them a playoff spot, an RR win will certainly spice things up in the top-four battle.
